This project is articulated in two sections.

Questo progetto si articola in due sezioni:

The first regards the compilation of a database of essential phrasal verbs, complete with definitions for each phrasal verb, Italian translation, typology, examples of use, and some comparative notes. The morphological and semantic concepts which will form the object of the courseware (section two) will stem from the information in the database. The database should be a flexible tool for server-side applications and on-going linguistic research.

La prima riguarda la compilazione di un database dei phrasal verbs essenziali, completo di spiegazione, traduzione, tipologia, esempi di uso, ed eventuali note comparative per ogni singolo verbo. I concetti morfologici e semantici che costituiranno l'oggetto del courseware (seconda sezione) emergeranno dalle informazioni del database. Il database dovrebbe essere uno strumento flessibile, adatto sia a programmi server-side sia alla ricerca linguistica futura.

The second section is the "student's side"- the courseware itself. It is an interactive Web site containing explanations and lessons on phrasal verbs. Graphic content, sound files, and games will be correctly integrated. Exercises and quizzes should give the student a chance to test his learning and give the teacher a chance to test his teaching.

La seconda sezione è dedicato allo studente - il courseware vero e proprio. Si tratta di un sito Web interattivo contenente spiegazioni e lezioni sui phrasal verbs. Contenuti grafici, files audio, e giochi saranno opportunamente integrati. Esercizi e quiz dovrebbero dare allo studente l'opportunità di verificare il proprio progresso ed all'insegnante l'opportunità di verificare l'efficacia del proprio insegnamento.

Phrasal verbs are a specific kind of verb. The term derives from "phrase" which in traditional linguistic theory refers to the minimum unit of syntax. They differ from normal verbs in that they are constituted by two or three elements instead of just one.

I phrasal verbs (verbi sintagmatici) sono una categoria specifica di verbi. Il termine deriva da phrase (sintagma) che nella tradizione teorica linguistica indica l'unità minima della sintassi. Essi si differenziano dai verbi normali in quanto costituiti da due o tre elementi anziché di uno soltanto.

The number of common verbs, prepositions, and adverbs in English is not very great. Yet the quantity of actions, states, and events to be communicated in verb form tends toward the infinite. Phrasal verbs are products of the recycling and the recombination of finite lessical elements in order to render the language infinitely wealthy and expressive. They often arise from casual uses of the language and eventually work themselves into the mainstream of language use. According to some scholars, phrasal verbs constitute a highly productive system which is difficult to classify completely.

Il numero di verbi comuni, preposizioni ed avverbi non è molto elevato nella lingua inglese. Tuttavia, la quantità di azioni, stati ed eventi da comunicarsi in forma verbale tende all'infinito. I phrasal verbs sono il prodotto di un riciclaggio e la ricombinazione di elementi lessicali di numero finito, allo scopo di rendere la lingua infinitamente ricca ed espressiva. Tali verbi nascono spesso da un uso informale o idiomatico della lingua per poi entrare a far parte della lingua ufficiale. Secondo alcuni studiosi, i phrasal verbs costituiscono un vero e proprio sistema produttivo, che rende difficile ogni tentativo di classificazione.

Phrasal verbs are morphologically complete verbs: they have an infinitive and conjugations. Morphologically they are composed of a base verb and one or more particles (adverbs or prepositions).

I phrasal verbs sono morfologicamente completi: posseggono cioè regolarmente un infinito e le forme coniugate. Dal punto di vista morfologico essi sono composti da un verbo di base ed una o pìu "particelle" (avverbi o preposizioni).
